Judge John Roll bravely sacrificed his life to save another

Recent video of the last moments of the life of Honorable Judge John Roll, the late Chief Judge of the Arizona District Courts, who was shot down on January 8, 2011, by a deranged man during an assassination attempt of a Congresswoman reveals that Judge Roll saved another by sacrificing his own life in an act as brave and selfless as that of any Medal of Honor recipient.

The video reveals that Congresswoman Gifford’s aide Ron Barber was shot in the arm. Then Judge Roll pushed Barber under a table and shielded Barber’s body with his own body. The video reveals after he laid on top of Barber under the table, he looked over his right shoulder and saw the gunman aim at him. Then Roll was shot in the back and died quickly.

If it were not for the quick thinking and selfless act in giving the last measure of his life to save another, Ron Barber would have been more seriously wounded or dead as they were the closest victims to the shooter, on one side of the Congresswoman, after the Congresswoman was shot in the head.

Judge Roll should be recognized with whatever awards are appropriate from his country and from private foundations. He is a true hero by every definition of this word, the same as if he were a soldier. May his soul obtain everlasting peace.
